Abbotsford Convent MelbourneI am blessed to have a tiny office in the Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne. It stopped operating as a nunnery in the 1990s. It was originally set up in 1856 to support 'fallen women'. Now it is one of Melbourne's premiere creative precincts. My office (like many others here) used to be a cloister for Good Shepherd nuns."Get thee to a nunnery' now has very special connotations for moi.
To get here I have to walk through the Studley Park bushland which means my daily walking companions are lorikeets, ducks and other miscellaneous feathered and non-feathered creatures. This morning however, I came across a crew of young, fluorescent clad folk. They were from Greening Australia and were heaving, hoeing and shoveling mountain loads of mulch as part of a revegetation of the Yarra banks project.
What a thrill to come across such wonderful, quiet endeavours that are changing our world one shovel full at a time. THUMBS UP FOLKS!!! You made my day.
